The build up to the shot is where FIFA 16 shines
FIFA 16 is out now! Here in the UK you can get hold of EA's new football game from today (24 September 2015). That is a few days after our American cousins get their soccer fix, but we had football long before they did so I suppose it is only fair. The full release schedule is US and Canada on September 22, 2015, followed by more of South- and Central America, Australia, and most of Europe on 24 September, 2015. The good people of Japan and Brazil have to wait until 8 October to get their hands on FIFA 16. Yes, it seems odd that Brazil gets a soccer game last of all. But it is hardly the worst thing that is happening at FIFA headquarters just now.
Personally, Ive always felt a little overmatched on defense. I could never get the hang of it. But defending in FIFA 16 seems like a more evenly-matched affair; Im not merely trying to impede the players progress by tossing the kitchen sink at their feet. Now, slide tackles are a little more useful (I actually performed a successful one on my first try) and if I want to be deft and tactful, I can just try to poke the ball away. The better slide (come to acheter crédit fut 16) tackling is a big plus, because youll start using it in a variety of situations, and you finally feel as if youre in full control on defense. One downside: Because defensive players have a lot more range this time, Ive been tackled by players when I thought they were too far away. In fact, I think they can get me from too far away. Gotta take the bad with the good, I guess.
But the remodeled player locomotion and AI make it a much more hit-miss proposition, as it is in real life. Defending requires maximum concentration instead of cocky, reckless button-mashing; it's an eerie approximation of how Eliaquim Mangala must have felt during his difficult first season at Manchester City. Passing also requires more care, both in placement and power. No longer do first-time flicks drift perfectly into a teammates' path unless you master the reworked options. There are specific button sequences for lofted passes or through-balls as before, but with the additions of "Pass With Purpose" (a heavier, quicker pass to find a teammate in space and cue an attack) and a wider range of pass-fakes and dribble options to allow cannier players to breeze toward goal.
The build-up to the shot, however, is where FIFA 16 shines. However, with the rise of the MLS, its surprising that FIFA, or the MLS, didnt make a push to add some of the other MLS soccer-specific stadiums like Torontos BMO Field, Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, San Joses new Avaya Stadium or even StubHub Field in Los Angeles. Sorry NYCFC fans, as awesomely weird as it wouldve been to have Yankee Stadium in (vist fifa-coins.fr) FIFA 16, The House That Jeter Built isnt anywhere close to owned by FIFA or even MLS. It is safe to say that EA Sports missed the ball with the MLS and can only hope that FIFA 17 starts to include the MLS in the same regard as they do the English Premiership, Serie A, Bundesliga and La Liga.
